The 2017 TriSports.com Sahuarita Triathlon is a USA Triathlon sanctioned multisport festival taking place in and around Sahuarita Lake Park taking place on Saturday 5/6/17. You can choose from Sprint or Olympic Distance Triathlons, 5k Trail Run, or forego the swim and participate in a duathlon!
If you’re looking for a run, we’ve added a 5k option for the whole family!
Sahuarita is a wonderful town located just 15 miles south of Tucson, and less than 2 hours from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (directions). The average temperatures in early May are mid-50’s in the morning, with a high of 85 degrees. The water temperature in Sahuarita Lake in early May is an ideal 67 to 69 degrees. The area around the Lake is absolutely perfect for friends and family to spectate or just hang out and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Park and playground facilities are right there for the kids, too.
The Deuces Wild Triathlon Festival is one of the most popular weekend festivals in multisport. The weekend consists of four races: an Olympic distance triathlon, a long course triathlon, a youth triathlon and an off-road XTERRA America Tour triathlon.
All proceeds from the race benefit various charities, especially the Challenged Athletes Foundation and local White Mountain organizations.
The Festival kicks off on Saturday with the DeuceMan Long Course Triathlon which takes athletes around a scenic tour of the White Mountains. The Olympic Distance Triathlon will follow, taking athletes out of Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area, through the city of Show Low and back into the Ponderosa Pines. The race day is ended with the always exciting Youth Deuceathlon, a triathlon for the budding athletes and one of the more fun events to watch.
The Festival weekend is completed on Sunday with the XTERRA Deuces Wild Triathlon. The race is part of the XTERRA American Tour where athletes can earn points towards becoming Regional Champions and qualifying for the XTERRA USA Championships.
A Super Sprint requires every member of a relay team to complete all three legs (swim, bike, run) of a triathlon. The first team member starts the race, does all three legs and then hands off the timing chip to the next team member to complete the same course, who then hands off the timing chip to the final (third) team member to finish the triathlon. It is a “super sprint distance,” meaning a much shorter course than a tradition spint triathlon, but it does have its challenges. See The Course description below for further details. Swim – 3-4 minutes; Bike 3.5 miles; Run 1 mile
